Well, the post title says it all really! It’s official: 25% of all websites are now powered by WordPress. It’s an absolutely staggering figure and an incredible achievement for any platform, particularly one that’s open source.
He might have just set an impressive record but Matt Mullenweg shows no signs of slowing down, stating the following on his blog after the news came out:
The big opportunity is still the 57 percent of websites that don’t use any identifiable CMS yet, and that’s where I think there is still a ton of growth for us (and I’m also rooting for all the other open source CMSes).
In the 12 years since it debuted, WordPress has gone from strength to strength and now has a library of over 40,000 plugins, 1000s of theme designers and developers and is also the fasted-growing CMS of them all, with one new site joining the ranks every 74 seconds.
We can’t wait to see which other milestones WordPress can reach in 2016!
