Think of this as your weekly reminder to ensure your WordPress site is up to date! Although WordPress prides itself on being a secure CMS, it’s down to each individual user to make sure they’re running the latest version of WordPress and keep all of their plugins up to date to avoid any vulnerabilities. It can be tricky to keep each and every one of your plugins fully up to date, particularly in you’re running a lot of them, but it’s so important in today’s online world – as new security breaches and online attacks are becoming more and more common. Why not set aside just ten minutes on a Monday morning or Friday afternoon to double check that your WordPress site is fully up to date?

If you think we’re babbling on about nothing and your site is perfectly safe, even if it’s utilising plugins that haven’t been updated for a year, the FBI recently released a statement warning site owners to keep their sites safe and secure from hackers who may be working in line with extremist group, ISIS. An extract from the report reads:

‘Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities could result in an attacker gaining unauthorized access, bypassing security restrictions, injecting scripts, and stealing cookies from computer systems or network servers. An attacker could install malicious software; manipulate data; or create new accounts with full user privileges for future Web site exploitation.’
