Matt Mullenweg reveals more WordPress releases due before the end of the year
WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg has announced that WordPress 3.7 and 3.8 will be released before the end of 2013. The news comes amid current anticipation over the imminent release of WordPress 3.6 – with the WordPress community already in a heightened state of excitement, it’s all getting a little too much.
In his State of the Word address at WordCamp in San Francisco on July 27th Mullenweg said 3.6 was not to be released that weekend, but that ‘Oscar’ (after Oscar Peterson) will be shipped ‘very soon’.
He went on to announce that Andrew Nacin, lead core developer, will be leading 3.7 to fruition, where the focus will be aimed at stability and security. The version is due to be in our hands by October, while 3.8 is due in December.
Mullenweg’s State of the Word address also revealed some exciting figures for WordPress. With 46+ million downloads, 18.9% of the web is now powered by WordPress: a pretty sizable proportion for a humble blogging platform.
