An interesting acquisition from within the world of WordPress took place last week, with WPBeginner founder, Syed Balkhi, purchasing Google Analytics for WordPress from Yoast. Google Analytics for WordPress tips the scales at just over 10,000,000 downloads, making it the most downloaded analytics plugin for WordPress and one of the most popular plugins of all time. However, now in the hands of Balkhi, it’s been rebranded as MonsterInsights.

The aim is that MonsterInsights will allow users to obtain statistics that will add real value to their business and help them boost traffic and conversions. However, we’re unlikely to see any concrete changes (aside from the new name) for a good few months as, for now, users are able to continue using the plugin as it was prior to the acquisition.

Balkhi’s long-term plans for the plugin involve redesigning the plugin’s dashboard to focus on trending topics and popular posts, as well as adding multiple new features and improvements to the plugin. For now, though, his main focus is to update the legacy code to modernise it and get it ready for the new features he has planned.

A roadmap has been promised in May, which will confirm the details and deadlines of each feature release.
