The Rise and Rise of the Masonry Layout (Plus, Our Top Five Picks!)

We really enjoyed Envato Market’s recent blog on the current state of WordPress blogging themes. WordPress has been the number one choice for bloggers for years now and the diversity of WordPress themes means there’s something for every kind of blogger – whether it’s a personal blog that’s updated monthly or a corporate blog that sees multiple daily updates.

Envato Market’s blog post focuses on the four main layouts of blog themes: single-column, two-column, journal and masonry. While two-column blogs have always been a popular choice, as blogs grow in credibility and many find their hobby becoming their full time job, masonry layouts are surging in popularity. This grid layout (perfect by Pinterest, as the blog post states) boasts a large, eye-catching header, a clean background clear of sidebar clutter and responsive design.

Here are five of our favourite masonry layout themes:

The five themes above are some of our favourites but there are plenty of grid-style layouts out there to choose from. Switching to a masonry theme is a great opportunity to revamp your blog or portfolio and give your brand a bit of a declutter. It’s time to get rid of those bulky sidebars and streamline your look!
