WordPress have finally released their latest version of the platform, named ‘Oscar’ after the great Canadian jazz pianist Oscar Peterson.

The anticipated release comes after a rocky lead-up: having missed the initial release date in April, there was a big hoo-ha over stripping the UI from core, followed by further speculation from us and teasers from them over the actual date of the coming release.

The new version includes a great-looking new blog-centric theme, bullet-proof autosave and post locking, a revamped revision browser, native support for audio and video embeds, and improved integrations with Spotify, Rdio, and SoundCloud. The team have also released this video, first shown during Mullenweg’s State of the Word address at WordCamp San Francisco, outlining what the new version has in store:

For those who are with WP Engine like us, Austin Gunter released this update earlier, announcing that the release updates will be carried out over the next two weeks.
